Ahmadinejad: “My connection to the Supreme Leader is like a son to his father”

Addressing a group of Basiji Professors in Mashad last week, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared that his relationship to the Supreme Leader of Iran goes beyond the calls of office and politics and that he was connected to him like a son to his father. He declared that recent attempts to create a rift between the government and the Supreme Leadership of Iran would fail. His appointment of Rahim Mashai to the post of vice president had apparently raised the ire of the Supreme Leader since in the past year Mashai had declared “The people of Iran are friends to the people of Israel.” Furthermore, Ahmadinejad had reportedly hesitated in delivering the Supreme Leader’s order of discharge to Mashai.
In reference to the recent protests against the outcome of the elections he declared: “I am certain that the roots of the Revolution run deep so it will not be swayed by such winds. The grace of God will send all these commotions to the dumpster of history.”
