Two more victims of torture dead

Ramin Aghazadeh Ghahremani and Hosein Akbari, two more of the recent detainees, are confirmed to be dead. Akbari died while in custody from trauma to the brain caused by blows from batons. Ghahremani was released and died two days later due to the effects of the torture he suffered while in custody.
Norooz Website reports that having allegedly identified him on surveillance video in the course of street protests against the outcome of the tenth presidential elections, State police appeared at Ghahremani’s home to arrest him on charge of breaking a bank’s window. As he was not at home, his mother, certain of his innocence, later accompanies him to the police station. However, he is detained and only released after two weeks with evidence of torture on his body. It is reported that the detainee was hung from his feet for a long period and was hospitalized due to complications caused from blood cloths in his lungs and subsequently died.

In the case of Hosein Akbari, according to human rights groups, after going to great lengths to locate their detained son, Akbari’s family were told to collect the remains of their son from the hospital. His body bore clear evidence of trauma and torture. The families’ of victims are under great pressure not to disclose information about their lost ones.
