Karoubi announces disappearance of rape victim

Mehdi Karoubi

Mehdi Karoubi, the disputing candidate of Iranian presidential elections, announced that one of the witnesses in the case of detainee rapes in Iran prisons is missing. According to Karoubi, the witness disappeared after a meeting with representatives of the judiciary.

In a letter posted on Saham News website, Karoubi has charged Saeed Mortazavi, former prosecutor general of Tehran with any “unpleasant” accidents that might befall the witness or the family.

Karoubi was supposed to meet with the judiciary panel today to discuss the case of sexual assault of detainees in the recent protests against the outcome of the elections.

Karoubi was the first to publicize reports of these violations by Iranian officials and was immediately derided by government hardliners for making “baseless” accusations. He claims his allegations are based on firsthand reports of eyewitnesses and victims of these violations and he will only introduce these witnesses to the investigative panels if the state guarantees their security.

Karoubi claims the disappearance of the said witness is due to the “indecent and shocking” behaviour of officials with the witness.
