Opposition leader Mousavi accused of treason

FARS-Mohammad Javad Larijani

MirHosein Mousavi, disputing candidate of the Iran elections, came under unprecedented attack by Mohammad Javad Larijani, secretary of Human Rights Headquarters of Iran's judiciary. Larijani claimed: “Mousavi’s betrayal of the Revolution is akin to Massoud Rajavi’s betrayal,” and he has thus ruined his prospects for a good political career.

Massoud Rajavi is the leader of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran, one of the biggest opposition groups fighting the Islamic Republic for over 30 years. Members of this organization have been charged with bombing and assassination of various senior members of the Iranian government. The People’s Mojahedin also fought against Iran in the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and a large contingency of this group has been stationed in Ashraf Camp in Iraq since then.

IRNA cites Mr. Larijani saying: “Mousavi has assumed a tone similar to Rajavi in his literature and announcements.”

MirHosein Mousavi, who has been pursuing legal means of protesting the legitimacy of the current government on grounds of election fraud, has been under attack by several conservative media and political figures calling for his arrest.

Three months after the elections, protests still persist and today even the conservative candidate of the elections, Mohsen Rezai put forward a proposal for the establishment of a National Elections Commission to bar the government from interfering in election affairs.

Human Rights Headquarters secretary, Mr. Larijani also condemned Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Revolution Leader Ayatollah Khomeini, for his support of opposition forces in the post-election crisis. Hassan Khomeini has supported MirHosein Mousavi and in protest to the outcome of the elections, he boycotted the inauguration of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad whose presidential victory is disputed by many.

Larijani added: “It is inappropriate for the House of Imam Khomeini to support a political movement that is aligned with the People’s Mojahedin and Zionists, and is after secularizing the country.”

Mohammad Javad Larijani is another of the Larijani clan of five, all in top government positions in the Islamic Republic including heads of the legislative and judicial branches of the government.

If Mousavi is ever to have a chance to lead the Iranian Dissidents, he must oppose the old hardliners movement to build a nuclear bomb.
