No lawsuits against Mousavi at Tehran judiciary

Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi

Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi announced today that they have not received any complaints from 100 members of parliament regarding MirHosein Mousavi.

Hamid Resai, a conservative and pro-Ahmadinejad member of Iran’s parliament announced a few days ago that 100 members of the parliament have filed a lawsuit against opposition leader MirHosein Mousavi and his recent actions. The 100 lawmakers have not been identified in any media outlet.

State news agency, IRNA, which had reported the filing of the lawsuit against Mr. Mousavi, today cited Tehran’s prosecutor saying no lawsuits have been filed against the disputing candidate of the elections.

Mr. Dowlatabadi also remarked that although he has heard of other lawsuits being filed against Mr. Mousavi, he has seen no actual evidence of it at the judiciary.

In recent months, conservatives close to Ahmadinejad’s government have repeatedly claimed that they are preparing lawsuits with the judiciary against the disputing candidates of the election, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi who have challenged Ahmadinejad’s victory in the June elections and deny the legitimacy of his consequent government.

Post-election protests against Ahmadinejad’s victory have been confronted with violent government reactions with tens of people killed and hundreds injured. Numerous social and political activists have been arrested and many are still in prison.

Tehran’s prosecutor announced that 12 of these cases have been completed and sent to court for sentencing.

The files of Behzad Nabavi and Mohsen Safai Farahani, two prominent reform figures in Iran who have been in prison since the early days of the protests four months ago are reportedly amongst these twelve. Mr. Dowlatabadi refrained from identifying the other ten.

Tehran prosecutor’s office has announced that following the coroner’s recommendation, Behzad Nabavi has been hospitalized. Mr. Nabavi, who had previously undergone open-heart surgery, was operated on once more last week and is now in a Tehran hospital.

Mr. Nabavi was arrested by security officers on June 13, the day after the elections and his family has repeatedly expressed its concern about his health.
