Karroubi renews his allegations of vote fraud

ADVAR NEWS-Karroubi with Central Council of University Alumni

Mehdi Karroubi, who spoke in a meeting with the Central Council of University Alumni today, maintained that in the tenth presidential election in Iran votes were “rationed.” Mr. Karroubi claimed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was allotted 25 million of the votes and his own allotment was 330 thousand.

These numbers were confirmed by the Guardian Council as the number of votes received by the two candidates. Ayatollah Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran announced Ahmadinejad’s victory on the day after the elections with 24 million votes and confirmed the veracity of the elections.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s opponents Mehdi Karroubi, MirHosein Mousavi and Mohsen Rezai challenged the outcome. While the conservative candidate Mr. Rezai withdrew his complaints, Karroubi and Mousavi pursue their protests to the alleged fraud in elections and deny the legitimacy of the current government.

Mehdi Karroubi told the group of social activists that the country’s current situation is “highly sensitive” and the ascension of the tenth government is not the result of merely “one or two nights of planning.”

He claimed: “The Islamic Republic has been off-tracked from its main path and we intend to put it back on track.” He added “The Islamic Republic is not dependent on one single person or else it would disappear with the departure of that person. If every principle of the constitution had been executed, the country would not be faced with such difficulties.”

Mr. Karroubi has been under severe attack by conservative factions of the establishment for pursuing reports of “torture and abuse” of post election detainees in prisons. He has announced that he will not back down from his demands for justice.
