Mousavi: The constitution is not a divine text

JAMARAN-MirHosein Mousavi

MirHosein Mousavi reviewed Iran's current political crisis in an interview with Jamaran news headquarters.

The opposition leader maintained "the constitution is not a divine text" and it can be changed and reconsidered. He added that it is not acceptable that in this system a person can say things without being “held accountable.” According to Iran’s former prime minister, this state of affairs has made the country highly “vulnerable.”

Mr. Mousavi, a disputing candidate of the June presidential elections, denies the legitimacy of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s tenth government due to allegations of vote fraud. He has since been condemned by the conservative faction of the government as a pawn in a conspiracy to topple the Islamic Republic. On the contrary, Mousavi maintains that the survival of the regime depends on acknowledging the reform movement and bowing to the demands of the people.

He claims: “People who entered the scene of the Revolution did not do it to suffer such difficulties. They came to secure their freedom and welfare and if the system fails to deliver, it will lose its legitimacy for certain.”

MirHosein Mousavi also criticized the involvement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in expansive economic projects claiming that it is to the detriment of the country and the Corps itself.

Consortia connected with the Revolutionary Guards have been buying up large interests in numerous Iranian companies which has raised criticism of various political figures and groups who fear the role of economic interests in the activities of the armed forces.
