Radio Zamaneh hacked by Iranian Cyber Army

Amsterdam, 01.02.2010
Late night on Friday the 29th of January 2010, the website of Radio Zamaneh was attacked and eventually hacked by a group called “Iranian Cyber Army”. The attackers placed their signature on our main webpage with a warning message to “all treasonous mercenaries.”

The attack was well planned and organized. However, vital information about our contributors was not compromised or harmed thanks to the quick response of the Radio Zamaneh team. The radio broadcast was not affected by the attacks.

The attack comes days after executions of protesters by Iranian government and just before the 31st anniversary of the Iranian Revolution (February 11th) when mass demonstrations of Iranian protesters are expected. The fact that Radio Zamaneh was attacked proves once again the value of its accessibility to the Iranian people for credible and unbiased information.

Radio Zamaneh will be online later today or early tomorrow morning, stronger than before.

About Radio Zamaneh:

In 2005 Press Now partnered up with a team of Iranian journalists to form Radio Zamaneh. The Dutch government decided to support the development of media plurality in Iran after a unanimous vote in parliament.

Radio Zamaneh was established in 2006 as a non-profit organization under Dutch law. The station depends on donor support for its finances. It has no ties to any political, ethnic or social group inside or outside Iran. Internet broadcasting started on 4 August 2006, while satellite broadcasting started on 1 September 2006.

As a reader from abroad who does not read Farsi and is absolutely dependent on news sources like Radio Zamaneh, I am extremely glad and relieved that you are back. Thanks for the great work!
