Temporary releases issued for Iranian detainees

Iranian authorities issued temporary releases for prominent political prisoners Ebrahim Yazdi and Hedayat Aghai today. While Ebrahim Yazdi is released today for ten days according to his lawyer, Hedayat Aghai will be released tomorrow for a week-long period.

Tehran Prosecutor General, Abbas Jafari Dowlatabdi announced that investigations regarding Mr. Yazdi are still in progress but Hedayat Aghai has received a two-and-a- half-year prison term.

Enrahim Yazdi, Seceretary-General of dissident group, Nehzat-e Azadi (Freedom Movement) was arrested following Ashura Day events in December. Many of the detained members of Nehzat-e Azadi have been released in the past days.


Feizollah Arabsorkhi


Norooz Website also reports that Feizollah Arabsorkhi, executive member of reformist group, Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution, has been sentenced to six years in prison for the charge of “activities against national security and propaganda against the regime”. His lawyer also reports that he may be given a temporary release in the next few days.

Arabsorkhi was arrested following the June presidential elections and was present in the notorious mass trial of dissidents last summer. Several members of Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution are still in prison and have also been handed heavy prison terms.


Abdollah Momeni


Kalameh website also reports that Abdollah Momeni, spokesman of the student organization, Advar-e Tahkim-e Vahdat will not be released because his family cannot afford to put up his 800 million touman ($800,000) bail.
