Iran Minister calls for 22 thousand committed professors

Iranian Minster of Science, Kamran Daneshjou

Iran’s Science and Technology Minister, Kamran Daneshjou announced that Iranian universities need 22 thousand professors who are committed to Islamic principles and called on Muslim scholars and thinkers to apply to the Ministry of Science.

IRNA reports that the Minister of Science claimed 200 thousand students are currently enrolled in humanities courses in Iran and 100 thousand of them are in need of “committed professors.”

Daneshjou maintained that texts that separate religion from philosophy and society should not be translated and taught at universities, and “any professor who goes into a classroom must believe in Islamic principles and worldview.”

Mr. Daneshjou had announced earlier that universities in the Islamic Republic have no need for “secular” professors and lecturers.

Following Ayatollah Khamenei’s expressed concerns about the material taught in the field of humanities in the universities and his critical view of the large number of students enrolled in this area, Islamic Republic authorities have started reviewing and changing the texts and the indicated curricula.

In the meantime, several professors in the human sciences departments have been expressly retired.

The Minister of Science added: “We are in no way ashamed of saying that we will fire professors who do not subscribe to the Islamic worldview.”

Scores of prominent Iranian professors from Iran's top universities have been forced into early retirement in recent months.
