Iranian reformist group gives government failing report card

Iranian reformist group, Mujahedin of the Islamic Revolution issued a statement at the threshold of the Iranian New Year describing the events of the passing year as tragic adding that Ahmadinejad government has deprived people both from freedom and economic prosperity.

The reformist party, that has seen scores of its members arrested and prosecuted in the protests following the June presidential election which protesters claim was highjacked to secure Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s re-election, described the year as “the year of the epic confrontation of green freedom and democracy with merciless violence and oppression” and urged people not to forget to attend to the families of the victims of the post-election events.

The statement issued by the Mujahedin of the Islamic Revolution goes on to say: “Numerous families are in mourning for their loved ones and scores of our youth are in cruel and unacknowledged captivity.”

While tens of people have been killed in the post-election events, thousands of people have also been arrested. Some families have even been refused information about their captured kin.

The reformist organization urges people to visit with the families of detainees and share their burdens of sorrow and also invites them to assist needy families in celebration of the New Year.

The statement expresses great concern over the “uncontrollable” inflation rate and the closure of factories which have caused widespread unemployment for workers. It also adds that the protests of workers have been muffled by the “false propaganda of the State-run media.”
