Opposition leader criticizes Ahamdinejad's chioce of words

Mehdi Karroubi

Opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi spoke out against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s domestic and international performance condemning his “inappropriate” language in addressing the parliament and the US president.

Saham News reports that in his meeting with the reformist group, Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Mehdi Karroubi condemned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s derogatory remarks about Barack Obama last week in response to what Iran has interpreted as an implicit threat of a nuclear attack from the US president on Iran.

While the opposition leader spoke out against Ahmadinejad’s choice of words, he emphasized that “Of course, we, in line with all of our nation, condemn these threats and in case of any possible invasion, we will defend the country.”

Mehdi Karroubi also slammed Ahmadinejad’s attacks on the Parliament in the debate over the cutting of government subsidies.

Ahmadinejad’s proposal to save $40 billion through subsidies cuts has been voted down in the parliament and MPs have only approved half those savings for the government. Ahmadinejad has refused to carry out the bill despite the passing of the law through the Guardian Council and maintains that the Parliament lacks the expertise to evaluate the economic impact of this law.

Karroubi condemned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s belittling of the Parliament and described his efforts contrary to the interpretations of Ayatollah Khomeini regarding the importance of the Parliament in the Islamic Republic system.

The disputing candidate of the June presidential elections also spoke for the post-election detainees condemning the growing pressures on them by the establishment. He emphasized that the pressuring of political prisoners has become the source of great harm to the system.
