Protests against Khatami's travel restrictions

The Minority Faction of the Iranian parliament protested against the travel ban issued against former president, Mohammad Khatami and called on the judiciary to confront this “unjust” action.

The statement of the reformist MPs, published in Parleman news website announced that no government body has yet taken responsibility of this “unwise” action.

Former president, Mohammad Khatami was planning on attending an international conference in Japan on Thursday but was impeded by the authorities from leaving the country.

The Minority Fraction announced that it is the legal duty of this parliamentary group to follow up on this matter.

The former prime ministers of Sweden and Canada have also written a letter to Mahmoud Ahmadienjad in protest to the travel ban imposed on Mohammad Khatami.

In a letter forwarded to Iranian embassy in Japan they have called for the immediate rescinding of Khatami’s travel restrictions.

Jean Chretien and Ingvar Karlsson have written: “The council of exchange on nuclear disarmament is very eager to hear Mr. Khatami’s views and we strongly protest the travel restrictions imposed on him.”

According to conservative MP Hamid Resai, the three opposition leaders, Mohammad Khatami, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi are banned from travelling abroad due to a complaint filed by 150 Members of the Parliament.
