Ahamdinejad's nuclear deal slammed by Iranian MP

Iranian lawmaker, Ahmad Tavakoli

Iranian Member of Parliament, Ahmad Tavakoli slammed the agreement sealed between Iran, Turkey and Brazil yesterday regarding Iran’s nuclear fuel exchange procedures.

He stressed that this agreement does not protect Iranian interests in the matter and called on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to justify his decision in front of the parliament.

The said agreement states that Iran will exchange 1200 kg of its low-enriched uranium with 120 kg of 20 percent enriched uranium on Turkish territory.

The West has viewed this agreement with caution reserving their right to dismiss it following International Atomic Agency’s reading of it. The US has announced today that it does not address their concerns and they will forge ahead with their plans for increasing sanctions against Iran.

Ahamd Tavakoli, who is the head of parliament’s research headquarters, announced that the agreement does not ensure the commitment of Western parties.

Tavakoli claims most of the articles of the agreement appear to be mere “diplomatic compliments” and that Iran “has lost its strongest leverage” in this agreement.

He also claimed that the agreement “raises Turkey’s weight in the regional equations at the expense of reducing Iran’s.”

After months of challenge over IAEA’s nuclear fuel exchange deal, Iran has agreed to make the exchange outside Iranian territory.

Iran’s persistence in making the exchange on Iranian territory led to US efforts to commence a new set of economic sanctions against Iran.

The sanctions will be considered next week by the United Nations General Assembly, according to Western officials.
