Iran's Seminary Teachers list solutions to crisis

The Society of Qom Seminary Teachers and Researchers list a number of solutions for leading the Islamic Republic out if its “crisis” with election protesters.

A return to the provisions of the Constitution, release of political prisoners and identification and prosecution of perpetrators of murders are the top solutions mentioned by the reformist organization.

They also call for freedom of the press and free elections in order ‘to return the Revolution and the objectives of the Imam (founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini) to its original path.”

Reformists and government opposition claim that “widespread fraud” in the presidential elections of 2009 has derailed the Islamic Republic from its original path.

In the past year, the top opposition leaders, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have repeatedly said that the “deviations” of the system need to be rectified.

Islamic Republic hardliners headed by Ayatollah Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have condemned the opposition leaders and described their claims of election fraud as “seditious.”

The Society of Qom Seminary Teachers and Researchers, a religious organization that supports the reform movement, has condemned the government’s violent reaction toward peaceful election protesters in the past year.
