In a meeting with Iranian reformists, opposition leader, MirHosein Mousavi criticized Islamic Republic for its fear of “plurality and people’s involvement in their fate.”

According to Kaleme website, Mousavi claimed that Islamic Republic authorities just want people for ceremonial events and he condemned this view of people saying: “You cannot treat this nation like children.”

MirHosein Mousavi said the government cannot even tolerate a wedding celebration and added “Today being Muslim is being used as an excuse for great oppression.”

The wedding in question refers to a wedding celebration at the home of Mohsen Mirdamadi, secretary-general of reformist organization, Islamic Iran Participation Front. The wedding of Mirdamadi’s child was attended by a number of prominent reformist figures and a number of photos of the event were published on the internet.

Mohsen Mirdamadi was summoned to Evin Prison and interrogated in connection with the wedding celebration.

Earlier Mirdamadi was arrested in the post-election events and was temporarily released after months in prison.

MirHosein Mousavi stressed that the Green Movement “goes well beyond prominent organizations and well-known groups.”
