Iranian opposition leader, Zahra Rahnavard urged the Islamic Republic to release all political prisoners on the occasion of the birthday of Fatemeh, the daughter of Prophet Mohammad.

Following widespread protests to the alleged electoral fraud that brought Mahmoud Ahmadinejad back to power; over four thousand people have been arrested.

Despite repeated demands for the release of political prisoners from political groups and international human rights organizations, many of these detainees are still behind bars.

She also calls on Iranian authorities to heed freedom of the press, individual liberties, non-interference in people’s private lives and free national elections in order to establish democracy within the Islamic Republic.

Zahra Rahnavard was chosen as the third top Global thinker by Foreign Policy magazine in 2009.

Foreign Policy described her as the “brains behind Iran’s Green Revolution” for her role in the presidential election campaign of her husband, MirHosein Mousavi.
