Reformist group demands release of Iranain labour activists

Reformist organization, Mojahedin of Islamic Revolution of Iran announced its support for the legal activities of Iranian labour organizations and called for the unconditional release of activists and representatives of Iran’s labour community.

In a statement, the reformist group maintained that the “disturbing and plentiful difficulties” of workers are a result of “the government’s lack of attention” to this section of the society.

They condemn the transference of national economic agencies into the hands of semi-public and military institutions and decry the “mistaken and confrontational policies of the government which has resulted in severing of cooperation with developed countries and in failure to attract foreign investment.”

Mojahedin of Islamic Revolution also speaks out against the arrest, dismissal and long prison terms of labour activists.

Mansour Osanlou and Ali Nejati are two labour activists who have been imprisoned for representing labour disputes.

The reformist organization declares that the economic difficulties of the country can be better addressed by drawing on the expertise and experiences of the labour community which can only be accomplished through establishment of independent labour organizations by workers and their participation in the economic decision-making process.

Earlier, ten labour organizations announced their demands in a resolution containing 15 articles.

Yesterday, on International Worker’s Day, events were held in different parts of Iran which led to confrontation with security forces and arrest of a number of participants.
