Iranian opposition leaders condemn Israel's attack

MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, leaders of Iran’s Green Movement, issued separate announcements in condemnation of Israel’s attack on the aid flotilla to Gaza.

Kaleme website reports that Mousavi described Israel’s actions as “a flagrant violation of international regulations and basic human rights.”

MirHosein Mousavi declares: “I, along with the Green Movement all across the world, in unison with all freedom-lovers, condemn this international crime.”

Mehdi Karroubi also condemned Israel’s attack in a statement saying the violent act is the product of “anti-human, anti-justice and anti-freedom propensities.”

Karroubi urged the international community as well as the Security Council to take a “firm stance against this action and devise a practical response to it.".

On Monday morning, Israeli commandos attacked a group of six flotillas carrying aid to Gaza. Armed commandos boarded one of the flotillas causing the death of up to 19 passengers.

The Gaza strip has been under siege by Israeli government since Hamas came to power and Tel Aviv has justified its actions saying it is necessary in order to prevent the flow of weapons to Palestinian fighters.

The Israeli attack was also condemned by former Iranian president, Mohammad Khatami, the other prominent opposition figure in Iran.

Iran’s Supreme Leader also condemned the attack and urged continued efforts to deliver aid to Gaza.
