Iran oil minister says petrol production will be increased

Iranian oil minister, Massoud MirKazemi announced that Iranian petrochemical facilities are ready for the production of at least 15 million litres more of petrol per day.

Last year Iranian ministry of oil officials announced that they are examining a plan to increase petrol production within 48 days.

ILNA reports that speaking in the launch of two petrochemical projects in Oslouyeh, MirKazemi said: “Within three years we will reach the production capacity of 170 million litres of petrol per day and at that point the needs of the country would not be any more than 66 million litres per day. We can say that within three years we will be a petrol exporter.”

Head of Iranian transportation and fuel consumption headquarters announced that daily petrol consumption in the current year has been less than 63 million litres per day.

Iran is currently producing 43 million litres of petrol per day.

Deputy oil minister, Alireza Zeyqami indicated last month that they planned to increase petrol production in five of their projects by 60 percent which would put Iran’s daily production at 84 million litres per day by next Iranian year.

On Sunday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed Western efforts in pressuring Iran by imposing sanctions on Iran’s petrol imports saying: “They say they will put sanctions on petrol. It is my dream that they put sanctions on petrol. Within two days we will replace 17 million litres. We have done all the preparations and we are holding the key.”

The US Senate approved widespread sanctions against Iran last month which include sanctions on petrol exports.

The French company, Total has stopped sale of petrol to Iran since June.
