Iran's leader acknowledges delays in probe into dorm attacks

Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader told a group of students while investigations into the attack on the university dorms last year has been slow, he is certain that they will be pursued.

Last June, a few days after the controversial presidential elections that gave rise to mass protests to the alleged fraud in the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a number of University of Tehran dormitories were attacked by plainclothes forces.

The attack led to numerous injuries and according to reformist websites at least two students were killed in the attack.

In a meeting with a group of students yesterday, Ayatollah Khamenei said that a number of government organizations have not cooperated with the investigation into the dorm attacks and are not “fully motivated” in this regard but he assured his audience that the issue has not been forgotten and will be pursued.

In March, BBC’s Persian service showed a film that documented the violent treatment of students by the attackers of the dorm. Yet the promised probe into the attacks has so far published no results.

Iran’s supreme leader also responded to questions regarding the increase of disciplinary actions in universities saying that “in view of the torrent of enemy conspiracies”, the university milieu cannot be left alone and insisted that disciplinary actions were necessary, but he also added that he did not agree with extremism.
