Opposition criticizes Iran's international performance

MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi

Iranian opposition leaders, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi criticized the international policies of the government and expressed concern over the consequences of their “uncalculated” policies.

Kaleme website reports, in a meeting yesterday, the two leaders agreed that the “uncalculated remarks and decisions of the government has humiliated Iran and led to multilateral sanctions and threats” against the country.

They added that the sanctions “burden workers, farmers and the impoverished strata of the society and they could lead to inflation, economic decline and rise in unemployment.”

The UN Security Council approved the 1929 resolution on June 9 to impose sanctions against Iran.

The US, Australia, Canada and the EU have also gone on to approve further unilateral sanctions against Iran on top of the UN sanctions.

Mousavi and Karroubi urged Iranians to “establish social networks to produce truthful content and statistics regarding the situation of the country.”

The two leaders claim that the statistics given by the government regarding the economic situation of the country are “lies.”

MirHosein Mousavi also emphasized that he has received “disturbing news” from Evin prison from women’s section and section of unknown political prisoners and urged the judiciary to take action against it.

In the course of protests to the alleged ballot fraud in the 2009 presidential elections, the authorities have confirmed the arrest of over four thousand people.

MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi also noted the government plans to establish 7000 Basij paramilitary bases all across the country and remarked that the Basij has now been transformed into “a military-political party to oppress people, students, dervishes and their civic demands and also to engineer the elections.”
