Iranian journalist sentneced to 6 years in prison

Badrosadat Mofidi, head of Iranian Journalists Association was sentenced to six years in prison and five years ban from journalistic activities by the Iranian judiciary.

An opposition website reports that Mofidi is accused of “assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda activities against the regime.”

Mofidi, who now has 20 days to appeal the sentence, was in prison for over five and a half months in the post-election events and was released in June on bail.

Badrosadat Mofidi was arrested by the order of Tehran’s prosecutor for participating in the funeral of dissident cleric, Grand Ayatollah Montazeri who passed away in December.

International press watchdogs contend that Iran with at least 37 journalists behind bars is the biggest prison for journalists.
