Three arrested at commemoration service for Iranian victim

Ahmad Nejati Kargar
Islamic Republic security forces arrested three people at the commemoration service for Ahmad Nejati Kargar, who was killed a year ago in the crackdown on the protests against the alleged fraud in the 2009 president, Kaleme website reports..
Manzelat Mohammadi, mother of Nejati Kargar had expressed concern over the ceremony earlier and said that she had avoided inviting many of her relatives in case anyone would get arrested. She told Jaras website that security forces had given her no warnings against refraining from carrying out the ceremony.
Reportedly Ahmad Najati Kargar was arrested on June 14, 2009 in front of Bou Ali University in Tehran. He died from lung and kidney infection shortly after being released from prison. The opposition media claim that he was another victim of the torture and abuse of prisoners at the notorious Kahrizak Prison which was shut down after the scandal got out last summer.
After the news of his death got around, Iran’s national television and the state-backed newspaper Keyhan claimed that Ahamd Kargar Nejati was alive and a blog was started in his name publishing material in his name.
The family of the victim issued a letter right away to deny the news from the national television Seda-va-Sima and confirm that their twenty-two-year old son was buried in Behesht-e Zahra.
His mother told Jaras that they even filed a lawsuit against Ezzatollah Zarqami, head of Seda-va-Sima broadcasting but despite their lawyer’s efforts, the judiciary failed to pay attention to the matter and hold anyone accountable.
The family has also urged the judiciary to look into the matter of their son’s death and identify the perpetrators of his death, but Ms. Mohammadi reports that the judiciary has made no efforts in this regard.
