40 percent of Tehran's civil servants to work from home

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Tehran's provincial cabinet meeting

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continued his attempts at reducing Tehran’s traffic and population by suggesting 40 percent of civil servants do their work from home.

Mehr news agency reports that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the provincial cabinet meeting in Tehran that “distance employment” is a worthy plan that needs to be considered seriously in the efforts to reduce Tehran population and traffic.

He maintained that Tehran’s 14-million population is a serious problem and the government is trying to stabilize the population of other regions of Iran while encouraging government employees to move outside Tehran at the same time.

In April, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced a plan to introduce incentives to government employees who move out of Tehran as a strategy to relieve Tehran’s ever-increasing population which he claimed would prove highly fatal in case of an earthquake.

Two weeks ago the government announced that from the 18 thousand applicants for transfer so far 6 thousand have moved out of Tehran.

Reportedly government offices have been charged with moving 40 percent of their employees out of Tehran.
