Doctor Gholamreza Sarabi

Iranian media announced that one of the shooters of the murdered cardiologist, Gholamreza Sarabi, shot himself to death during police pursuit in northern Iran.

Governor of Western Gilan’s office said that the individual who was identified as Bahman Karimi, together with his son, Sajjad Karimi, murdered Gholamreza Sarabi in Tehran eight days ago.

According to this reports after being identified, Karimi was surrounded by the police and at this point shot himself to avoid arrest.

His son is still at large and reportedly the police are in pursuit of him.

There are no indications in this report of the motive for this murder.

24 hours prior to this murder, another physician, Abdolreza Soudbakhsh, was also gunned down in Tehran.

While Iranian authorities deny any political dimension in the killings, the opposition claims that Doctor Soudbakhsh was a witness in the case of torture and killing of political detainees at Kahrizak Detention Centre last summer.
