Iranian authorities tighten grip around opposition leader

MirHosein Mousavi

Last night Iranian security forces raided the office of MirHosein Mousavi confiscating the computers, books and documents.

Kaleme website reports that the pressures and restrictions against the opposition leader has now entered a new stage of operation and writes: “The new movements of the security forces speak of the government’s future plans.”

Yesterday security forces prevented the youth branch of Mehdi Karroubi’s National Trust party from meeting with him, and in the past weeks security forces have been stationed in the streets and neighbourhood around MirHosein Mousavi’s office stopping people from visiting him.

The two disputing candidates of the 2009 presidential elections have refused to accept the legitimacy of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s victory in the elections and have continued to criticize government oppression of protesters in the past year.

The government has steered around arresting the two opposition leaders in view of their prominent positions in the Islamic Republic history and in an attempt, in their own words, “of turning them into heroes.”

However, Tehran’s prosecutor warned yesterday that the opposition leaders should expect to be brought to trial soon.
