Iranian student activist recieves 5 years in prison


Hassan Asadi Zeidabadi

Hassan Asadi Zeidabadi, member of executive committee of Iranian student organization Danesh Amoukhtegan, was sentenced to five years in prison and a monetary fine by Iranian judiciary.

Advar news reports that the student activist was served his sentence by Judge Maghiseh this morning.

Asadi, who was the head of the organization’s human rights committee, was arrested on the charge of assembly and collusion with the intention of disrupting national security, propaganda against the regime, participating in illegal gatherings and disturbing the public.

Danesh Amoukhtegan Organization supported Mahmoud Ahmadineajd’s opponent, Mehdi Karroubi in the 2009 presidential elections and currently a number of its executive members including its secretary general, Ahmad Zeidabadi and speaker, Abdollah Momeni are in prison serving out heavy prison terms.

The opposition claims Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected through vote fraud. The government has responded to the election protests by arresting thousands of protesters and accusing disputing candidates of conspiring with foreign forces to topple the regime.
