Iran opposition leaders meet to discuss issues

MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi

Iranian opposition leaders met with each other yesterday to discuss the development of the Green Movement, the approaching Qods Day as well as the economy.

MirHosein Mousavi criticized the government oppression directed toward the members of the Green Movement and stressed that the movement is inclusive of “many thoughts and trends.”

He added: “Whilst the lengthiness of the path of reform is costing society dearly, but proposal and examination of issues through real legal channels will season the movement and ensure its success.”

Karroubi criticized government policies in exploiting the natural gas resources in the field shared with Qatar and Iraq. Karroubi maintained that both Qatar and Iraq have managed to tap into this resource while Iran lags behind due to the government’s incompetence.

He also accused the government of ignoring oil extraction plans that could have increased the country’s oil output manyfold.

On the occasion of the approaching Qods Day, the opposition leaders also announced their support for the people of Palestine and their “struggle to establish their rights.”

Without direct reference to the current Israel and Palestine negotiations in the US, they announced that they support “all honest efforts toward the realization of the rights of this nation.”
