Persecution of election protesters continues in Iran

Two more dissidents, Mahsa Amrabadi and Ruhollah Mohammadi, were given prison terms by the Iranian judiciary.

Aftob website reports that Ruhollah Mohammadi, member of MirHosein Mousavi’s campaign office was sentenced to two years in prison for charges ranging from “propaganda activities against the regime, assembly and collusion to disturb security” to “insulting the president.”

He was arrested in July at his home by officers of the ministry of intelligence.

Mahsa Amrabadi, journalist and wife of another detained journalist Massoud Bastani, was sentenced to one year in prison for “propaganda activities against the regime through interviews and reports”, according to Free-Journalists website.

Amrabadi was arrested in June of 2009 and released after 70 days in prison on a $200,000 bail.

Massoud Bastani, her husband, has also been sentenced to six years in prison and is currently serving his sentence in Rejaishahr Prison in Karaj.

Iran has arrested thousands of dissidents in the past year and a half for protesting against “vote fraud” in the 2009 presidential election. The detainees have received heavy sentences ranging from execution to prison terms and exile.
