Iranian opposition leader slams government policies

MirHosien Mousavi

Iranian opposition leader, MirHosein Mousavi called on the government to put their “destructive policies” to a popular vote.

In an interview with Kaleme website, Mousavi expressed concern about “Iran’s dire situation” and added that the government has to stand by its responsibility to “respect people’s rights, protect liberties, execute the constitution and respect people’s right to govern themselves.”

He rebuked the government for “putting the country against the world and creating the current dire political and economical situation for the country.”

Mousavi condemned Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s “adventuresome and unnecessary” statements which, he maintained, have paved the way for international sanctions against Iran.

He thus stated that such “destructive policies” should be put to a referendum to see whether people support such actions or not.

He emphasized once more that there is concrete evidence that the last presidential election was rigged and stressed that it is not possible to “brush off” the people’s protest movement.
