Transportation costs in Iran on a sudden surge

Transportation costs in Iran are rising fast with flight and train fares jumping up to 30 to 40 percent.

Mehr news agency reports, private sector trains in the southern corridors of the country have risen between 30 to 40 percent.

Mehdi Hadjian, spokesman for the Islamic Republic Railroads said: “There has been no increase in the public sector of the train system.”

News of implementation of subsidy cuts immediately translated into increase in transportation fares in some sectors of the system.

Yesterday, head of Iran’s National Aviation has announced that by October 7, airfare will increase by 30 percent.

Some analysts contend that these sudden increases in transportation fares are against regulations.

Road transportation officials announced that bus fares for intercity transportation are not set to increase yet.
