Tehran police force announces 100 arrests

Commander Hossein Sajedinia, head of Tehran security forces announced that over 100 “well-known thugs and hoodlums” of Tehran were arrested through the new "local security plan" implemented across the city.

Mehr news agency reports that according to Sajedinia these people were identified earlier and added that 400 more people will be arrested in the coming nights.

The Tehran police commander maintained that since the start of this plan, specialized police officers have identified these criminals all across the city.

He added that people are very supportive of this plan and reported that the detainees include 96 men, 6 women and also said nine firearms, several stolen motorcycles, alcoholic drinks and other cold weapons were also confiscated in the process.

He maintained that according to the new plan to control offenders, detainees are supposed to report to the police every week so that all their actions can be supervised.

Tehran authorities had announced earlier that they had established 800 local security hubs to deal with crime across the city. The police had also said that 2000 locations in the city are in need of these security hubs.

The Islamic Republic has implemented various programs to deal with social crimes. Human rights activist have often protested against the extreme use of violence in these initiatives.

The widespread security plans also concerns the opposition who are wary of government oppression of popular protests after the post-election events.
