Two detained lawyers identified by lawyers group

Five recently detained lawyers

The identities of the other two detained Iranian lawyers have been verified by the International Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights as Rosa Gharachurlo and Mohammad Hossein Nayyeri.

Iranian lawyers have become the repeated target of arrests in the past months and most recently, Tehran prosecutor announced on Saturday that they have arrested five lawyers on security charges.

While three of these detainees were identified as Maryam Karbasi, Maryam Kianersi and Hajar (Sara) Sabbaghian who were arrested in Tehran’s international airport upon returning from Turkey, the other two detainees were not identified until now.

The Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights, which was established recently to address the current government crackdown on human rights lawyers, announced the identities of the two remaining lawyers in their second announcement.

According to this announcement, Rosa Gharachurlo is a member of the Human Rights Commission of Central Bar Association and Mohammad Hossein Nayyeri is a former member of the Right to Defence of this Commission.

In its first announcement, the Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights stated that the arrest of these lawyers without a written warrant is irregular and arbitrary since the residences and occupations of these individuals are clear and they are not accused of unusual crimes that call for such a drastic measure.

In its second announcement, the Committee maintains that the arrest of these individuals is also in violation of the Article 32 of the constitution and the fifth article of the law of Respect for the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens.
