Jailed Iranian journalist released from Karaj prison

Kouhyar Goudarzi, jailed Iranian journalist was released today having served out his one year sentence.

According to Committee of Human Rights Reporters, Kouhyar Goudarzi was released this afternoon from Rejaishahr Prison in Karaj at the end of his one year prison sentence.

He was arrested last December in the crackdown on post-election protesters in Iran and was put to trial in June for “propaganda activity against the regime through effective collaboration with Committee of Human Rights Reporters website, collection and publishing of biased news against the regime and transfer of this information to terrorist organizations based abroad as well as interview with foreign media and publishing articles in websites.”

While in prison, Goudarzi was awarded the 2010 John Aubuchon prize for Freedom of the Press by the US National Press Club as a statement against widespread arrest of journalists in Iran.
