Iran issues sentences for 86 post-election detainees



Tehran Revolutionary Court has issued 86 sentences for the post-election detainees. The sentences are mostly prison terms and have been sent to the appeals court for confirmation.

According to court regulation, the names of the accused have not been released yet; however, they have announced that the charges as “assembly and collusion against the security, propaganda against the regime and membership in adversary groups.”

“Participation in illegal gatherings and disturbing public order” are also amongst the charges laid against these detainees.

Protests against the outcome of the June presidential elections have continued in Iran in the past nine months and numerous people have been arrested in the government’s fierce crackdown against protesters.

Iranian political and social activists have become the target of widespread arrests and heavy prison terms.
