Iran's harsh prison conditions decried by human rights group

International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has published a report gathered from recently released prisoners about the dire condition of prisoners in section 350 of Evin Prison.

Prisoners have reported over capacitated cells, harsh restriction on family visits, dire hygiene conditions and lack of space to rest.

In the past eleven months thousands of dissidents have been arrested in Iran to quell protests against the disputed re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Campaign also reports low quality diet, unhygienic services and lack of access to doctors in prisons.

Released prisoners also report that some of the detainees are subjected to harsh beatings to secure “confessions” from them.

Opposition leaders have repeatedly spoken out against the harsh treatment of political prisoners in Islamic Republic prisons.

Mehdi Karroubi, disputing candidate of the elections revealed a series of evidence regarding “torture” and “sexual abuse” of prisoners which was rejected by Islamic Republic authorities.
