New Neda Agha-Soltan film removed from You Tube

Neda Agha Soltan shot to death on the streets of Tehran

A new film about the death of Iranian post-election victim, Neda Agha-Soltan was posted on internet social networking sites today but removed from You Tube after a short interval.

The scenes of the 27-year-old’s last moments bleeding to death on the street were posted on the web last June creating international outrage against the Islamic Republic’s violent crackdown on peaceful protesters.

Agha-Soltan’s murderer has not been found yet and Iranian protesters claim the paramilitary Basij forces are responsible for her death.

The new film which shows the scenes of her moving death from a different angle, also shows an elderly man filming the scenes with his cell phone. It appears it is this very film that was soon after posted on the internet turning Neda into a symbol of the protests in Iran.

You Tube has removed the film for its violent and disturbing content. However, a number of Iranian networks have already downloaded the film from various sources and posted it on their own networks.

Islamic Republic officials attribute the death of Neda Agha-Soltan to foreign elements and even Iranian protesters themselves.

Eyewitnesses present at the scene claim a member of Basij forces was arrested on the spot by people but was let go because no one was certain what to do with him.

A number of Iranian officials have made allegations that the whole affair was staged by enemies of the regime to create bad publicity for the Islamic Republic.

British filmmaker, Anthony Thomas has made a documentary about the life and death of Neda Agha-Soltan which is narrated by award-winning Iranian actor, Shohreh Aghdashloo.

In response, Islamic Republic state news networks have also announced that they will soon air a documentary titled Crossroads that will examine the unseen aspects of what they describe as the “suspicious murder of Neda Agha-Soltan”.
