Mousavi says Green Movement has united opposition

MirHosien Mousavi

Iranian opposition leader, MirHosein Mousavi says: “The Green Movement has paved the way for national reconciliation, amity and unity.”

Kaleme website writes that in a meeting with children of Iran-Iraq War commanders, Mousavi maintained: “Political groups which had become disjointed due to erroneous policies are gradually coming together, talking to one another and sitting with each other.”

He added that freedom, justice and consent over protecting the people’s rights connect these political groups and their lines of separation are losing prominence.

Last year different opposition groups united in protest against the alleged fraud that brought Mahmoud Ahmadinejad back to power in the 2009 presidential elections.

Mousavi went on to condemn the widespread arrest of political activists and journalists in the past year and the oppression of the opposition under the guise of combating a so-called “soft war against the regime.”

He insisted that Iran is “entangled in corruption and oppression” and its prisons are filled with “our children who are struggling for freedom.”

While Iranian opposition insists that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected as a result of vote rigging carried out by the Revolutionary Guards, the government adamantly denies the charge and accuses the opposition of inciting sedition.
