Rahanvard challenges statements of Iran's top hardline cleric

Zahra Rahnavard condemned the statements of Iran’s head of the Guardian Council and expressed concern that Iran has fallen into the hands of people who have “lost every bit of credibility.”

Kaleme reports that Rahanvard, wife of Iranian opposition leader, MirHosein Mousavi told a group of Iran-Iraq war veterans that “the statements of the head of the Guardian Council are cause for consternation for every wise and patriotic individual in the country.”

Ahmad Jannati, head of Iran’s Guardian Council and one of Ahmadinejad’s staunchest supporters said on Tuesday that he is in possession of documents that prove “the leaders of sedition” have received a billion dollars from the US through Saudis and offered billions more to topple the Islamic Republic regime.

Islamic Republic hardliners use the term “leaders of sedition” for MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the two presidential candidates that disputed the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the 2009 elections and claim the ballot was rigged.

Mehdi Karroubi and the reformist organization, Islamic Iranian Participation Front have challenged Jannati to show his evidence and urged the judiciary to prosecute him if he does not back his allegations with proof.
