Iranian opposition leader to face more attacks

The pro-government mob that had swarmed the home of Iranian opposition leader, Mehdi Karroubi, this morning left around noon only promising to return again tonight.

For the past five nights, violent crowds of plain clothes forces of Basij have been attacking the home of Mehdi Karroubi who had announced he was planning to join today’s rally.

Last night, assailants broke the front door of his five-storey building complex forcing Karroubi’s guards to shoot warning shots. The attacks caused a number of injuries including the team-leader of Karroubi’s guards who was severely injured and taken to the hospital.

This was by far the fiercest attack so far by the pro-government crowd that went on to shoot at windows, throw tear gas bombs into the building and set fire to the front door. They cut off telephone lines while street lights and water pipes were also reportedly damaged in the attack.

MirHosein Mousavi condemned the attacks describing them as the sign of the establishment’s fear of the people’s movement.

Yasser Khomeini, the grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini, the late supreme leader of Iran, visited Mehdi Karroubi and his family today in a show of solidarity with the opposition leader.

Mehdi Karroubi has expressed his defiance to the media and announced that he is ready to pay the price of his resistance.
