Iran announced another arrest in Chabahar attack

Iranian authorities announced that they have arrested another person involved in today’s terrorist attacks in southwestern Iran.

IRNA reports Sistan-Baluchistan Intelligence ministry said that the three perpetrators of this terrorist act had entered Iran from a neighbouring country and were planning another operation.

On Wednesday morning, a suicide attack in one of the main squares of Chabahar killed and injured dozens of people. The attack which was carried out during a religious ceremony has so far claimed the lives of 39 and left 83 people injured.

The authorities announced earlier that they had stopped and arrested one of the perpetrators of the attack and prevented him from carrying out a further attack, while another was killed in the explosion. Iranian Interior Minister, Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced that a Security Council meeting will be held regarding this terrorist attack and maintained that they have managed to gather a number of useful clues about the operation.

He went on to add that these terrorists are “elements of the world arrogance” and had been trained in Pakistan. Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission claimed British and US intelligence forces are supporters of the Chabahar terrorist attack. Britain has however condemned the attacks emphasizing that they are against any form of terrorist operations.

Hours after the incident, Al-Arabiah reported that Jundollah organization has taken responsibility for the attack and while publishing the pictures of the assailants in their website, they have also warned Iranian authorities against interference in the religious affairs of the Sunni minority. Jundollah has also called for the release of all prisoners and stressed that failing to do so would result in further and graver attacks.

They write that the objective of the attacks is sacking of all invaders from Baluchistan and delivering the people of the region their rights through a regional government.

Jundollah is a militant group that operates in the Baluchistan region of Iran and claims to fight with the Islamic Republic for the rights of the Sunni minority of the region. In the past years, they have carried out a number of similar suicide and bomb attacks in Sistan-Baluchistan.

Iranian authorities recently arrested and later executed Jundollah leader, Abdolmalek Rigi. The US recently added Jundollah to its list of terrorist organizations.
