Shahla Jahed to be hanged in Tehran tomorrow

Shahla Jahed

Lawyer of Shahla Jahed, an Iranian woman sentenced to death for committing murder, announced that his client will be hanged tomorrow morning.

According to Iranian media, Abdolsamad Korramshahi, Jahed’s lawyer announced that he has been given an official statement from the court confirming the date of execution. He added that the family of Shahla Jahed and a number of other groups and individuals are still trying to obtain the consent of the victim’s family to forego Jahed’s execution.

According to Iran’s Sharia law, the execution sentence of a murder convict can be stopped by the consent of the family of the victim.

Shahla Jahed was charged with the murder of Laleh Saharkhizan, the wife of a well-known Iranian football player, eight years ago. She confessed to the murder 11 months after her arrest but in her trial, she claimed she was innocent.

The court found Jahed guilty and sentenced her to death by hanging.

Jahed’s lawyer managed to suspend her sentence through a letter to the former head of judiciary, Ayatollah Shahroudi, but the new head of the judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani has approved the sentence to be carried out.

It is a big disgrace on the name of justice.People make mistakes and they should be punished but no body has the right to execute them.I am sure she realized her mistakes all these days and she would have regretted if she would have been punished with imprisonment.
